Lore & Background

The existence of the World Tree has become a beacon for the forces of Order, particularly the Stormcast Eternals and the Sylvaneth, though their interpretations differ. For some, it is a promise of a new age where the realms will no longer be prey to Chaos; for others, like the followers of Nagash or those corrupted by dark magic, it represents a threat to their power or a twisted opportunity. The tree's growth is slow but inexorable, and its full awakening signals the moment when Alarielle will manifest its full power, potentially reshaping the balance of the entire Age of Sigmar.

In Their Own Story

High above the swirling mists of Ulthwë, where reality bends to the whims of arcane currents, a single leaf unfurled. It was not green like the forests of old, but shimmered with the pearlescent light of a thousand extinguished stars. An ancient Spiritseer stood before the massive trunk, her eyes closed as she felt the hum of a million voices—the whispers of ancestors long turned to dust. They were not screaming in pain, nor crying out for vengeance; they were singing a low, resonant harmony that vibrated through the very bones of the realm. 'It is time,' she whispered into the void, watching as the bark shifted and pulsed like a living heart. The World Tree was waking.

Reader's Guide

Ynnead functions as a metaphysical anchor for the Aeldari race, operating on a spiritual plane that intersects with the physical realms. It does not require a single wielder in the traditional sense; rather, it is 'wielded' by the collective will and sacrifice of the entire Aeldari people. The tree works by absorbing the souls of deceased Aeldari upon their passing. These souls are stripped of their individual corruption or trauma and integrated into the growing mass of Ynnead. This process strengthens the entity, allowing it to eventually manifest as a physical god capable of intervening in mortal affairs. No single faction controls Ynnead entirely, though the Craftworlders often act as its most vocal proponents, protecting the realms where its influence is strongest. The Dark Kin and other factions may seek to hasten or hinder its growth based on their own agendas, but ultimately, Ynnead follows its own ancient destiny.
